BHP has approved US$2.9 billion to develop the new South Flank project in the central Pilbara region. The new project will replace production from the Yandi mine which is reaching the end of it's economic life.
The project will create around 2,500 construction jobs, more than 600 ongoing operational roles and generate many opportunities for Western Australian suppliers.
The project is expected to produce ore for more than 25 years.

• Increase in WAIO’s average iron grade from 61% to 62%.
• Total lump from 25% to35%.
